Australia’s Leading Child Care Conference
“Riding the Waves of Change … Strategies for Success”
Friday 30 May – Sunday 1 June 2008

Delegates from Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland traveled to the Gold Coast on the last weekend in May to hear an impressive line-up of keynote speakers and workshop presenters at this year’s leading child care conference.

Situated on more than 200 hectares of magnificently landscaped gardens, the Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort was the perfect venue for conference delegates to relax and network with colleagues.

This year the Conference program included a Charity Golf Event which was sponsored by ‘The Guild Group’. Despite the inclement weather, a number of keen golfers put their skills to the test and enjoyed an afternoon of fun. Monies raised through the golf event, raffle proceeds and other very generous pledges made during the Gala Dinner totaled approximately $7000. These funds have been donated to Paradise Kids on the Gold Coast, a service assisting children deal with many types of grief, illness and loss.

The Welcome Drinks, sponsored by Bank West and attended by over 180 delegates and exhibitors, provided an excellent opportunity to unwind after yet another hectic week in child care, to renew friendships, to share stories and a few laughs and to mingle with other like-minded attendees.

There was enthusiastic response to Robyn Moore and Terry Hawkins, the Keynote Speakers. Robyn is a multi-skilled Communicator who has been in the business of creating and changing peoples’ perception through “the power of the word” for almost 30 years. Robyn certainly managed to “sell delegates back to themselves” so they could rediscover their energy, purpose, passion and their sense of humour. To captivate an audience in the way that Terry Hawkins does is truly amazing. Terry showed delegates how to use mind language to produce desired outcomes and inspired, perhaps even challenged delegates as they left with the tools to move forward in a powerful and passionate way.

The “tropical dress” theme for the Gala Dinner on Saturday night featured a number of delegates in hula skirts and coconuts while the more conservative sported colorful leis. With the ‘Beach Boyz’ in full voice it was hard to find a spare space on the dance floor as everyone enjoyed a truly wonderful evening, some into the wee hours.

The conference covered the full range of topical issues, embraced the changes impacting on the child care industry and focused on the positives to ensure success. The mix of presentations and workshops and the wonderful trade exhibition ranked highly in delegate surveys, which is always rewarding given the effort invested in preparing for such a conference.

Childcare Queensland thanks members, non-members, sponsors, exhibitors and presenters for ensuring that this year’s Conference was once again a fantastic forum to share in professional development, networking and fun.
